12 Weeks

Um, I'm not even going to try catching up to the last three months. 3!?!?! Holy crud. Annnnnyway, Keegan is 12 weeks old. Oy. He's just kicking and whining and flailing arms and legs. We weighed him in Overton last week and he's up to 12 lbs, 6 and a half more than when we brought him home. He eats 4 oz at a time and will sleep around 5 hours. He's starting to talk a little but it mostly just sounds like crying still. School starts in 4 weeks and his blessing is August 4th. It's going to be busy, although I feel like we just sit around all day. We wake up and all the sudden it's 5pm!

April 16- Kedzie Keegan

Well, Keegan is here! I need to type this all up before I forget since I'm not at home with his book. Here's a little novel to remember...

I went to bed Monday and everything seemed perfectly normal- exhausted, little low movements, nothing new. I woke up around 2:30 to pee like normal but lost all my water when I stood up. I changed into new pajamas and shoes and woke Kedzie up, hoping it wasn't my water but knew it was the only thing it could be. We got to the hospital quickly- we always said how nice it was to be so close to home when I went into labor or for Kedzie to come and go while Keegan and I were there. Ha! If only...
They checked me in quickly (only asking if I was an organ donor or had advanced directives! Thanks KRMC. That's reassuring.) The nurse, a sister-in-law of a first grade teacher at my school, tested the fluid. It was 99% amniotic. That's when everything went nuts. She called the doctor, started an IV (her helper did it...sticking me twice and fishing around for a vein,) and giving me a steroid shot for his little lungs. Dr. Taylor finally got there and said I was in active labor- dilated to a 3 and 90% effaced. Since I was only 33 weeks I would be flown to Phoenix. Kingman doesn't deliver until 36 weeks. My legs started shaking uncontrollably and I asked him to please send me to Las Vegas. I couldn't imagine being in a town I didn't know so far away from family...and Kedzie trying to drive there on his own.
Mom talked to her friend in L&D at Sunrise and Dr. Taylor got them to accept me there. Whew! Definitely one of the biggest blessings of the day. Kedzie grabbed the dogs, carseat, and random clothes and headed to Vegas. I got there via helicopter. Considering the wind we'd had lately it wasn't a bad ride. One bad turbulence jump and we got to Sunrise. It was a pretty decent view and helped me focus on that instead of losing it completely.
Mom, Dad, and Kedzie got there about 20 minutes after I did. Then we sat. I got magnesium started in Kingman and stayed on that and antibiotics for the rest of the day. The plan was to give me another steroid shot 24 hours after the first one, at 3 am. Around noon I started feeling contractions. They were pretty regular, about 4-5 minutes apart and 30 seconds long. We told the nurse and she just said it was an irritable uterus. Right. Very irritable. They just continued through the day. Longer apart but about 1 minute long. They weren't showing up on the blasted machine! The sensor was on top of my belly but everything I've ever felt with Keegan was super low. 6:00-ish she decided to check me since the still leaking water had more blood. The doctor came in and said we're having him now! :) I was dilated to 6 and 100% effaced. My legs started shaking again and chaos started. I just got to lay there but everyone else started packing and moving me down the hall. The labor nurse was super helpful and the room was frigid. Keegan's little warmer was there, and a footprint card and tiny little hat :)
Shortly after we got settled the anesthesiologist came in...right before he went home. And luckily we got him. He was great. Mom and Kedzie were super impressed and I went numb as soon as he finished--very strange but I calmed down instantly and stopped shaking. The nurse was great helping me stay still while he did it.
I remember watching parts of 2 episodes of Big Bang Theory and looking for something else to watch when a new nurse came in (we seemed to do everything this morning and night at shift change) She started looking at contractions and said we were ready to go. Keegan's heartbeat had stayed steady all day, luckily. He's a strong little guy.
Dad gave me a blessing and shortly after the nurse started watching for contractions and I was trying to feel for the pressure to push. She had to tell me for awhile, they finally got stronger. Kedzie and mom helped with my legs. I want to say she had me push 5 different times? She did them to a (SLOW!) count to 10 in groups of 3. We got close enough that she got the doctor and NICU team from the hallway. I had the biggest push urge yet and all the sudden Keegan was here! It was 8:33 pm and he was 4 lbs 13 oz and 18 inches long. Definitely didn't look like a premature little guy. Kedzie said he came out with his arms up to his face like a little fighter. The doctor held him up for me, he stayed for a few seconds while they sucked out his mouth and everything and then he started screaming. Such great little lungs for 33 weeks! It was the best thing to ever hear. They got him cleaned up and calmed down. Kedzie cut his cord and they brought him to me for a minute, then he and Kedzie left to the NICU. I got a few stitches on the side but then everyone was gone and it was calm again, just the nurse and mom. Dad had gone out to talk to Grandma, Lori, Whitney, Jerad, and Karlin and show them a picture... I'll get them up when we get home and I can load it all on the computer. My poor little phone is getting loaded down.
Eventually, they moved me upstairs to the postpartum rooms and put me in bed...I thought I was going to NICU! So, we got back in the wheelchair and finally went downstairs to see my little boy.
We walked all the way down the pod, he's in 2004-the last one and furthest from the door. I saw my little guy laying there all stretched out and growling away. He was breathing on his own but working hard and grumbling the whole time. Going back to my room was hard, the rooms on either side had crying babies the whole time I was there. But, he was content and comfortable and safe downstairs. Kedzie and I passed out as soon as we finally laid down, 23 hours after we started this whole crazy day.

Baby Skeletor Crafts

My second ultrasound (13 weeks) had a cool shot from... above? Face on? Annnnyway, we saw the skeleton and skull instead of just a profile. Whitney called him Baby Skeletor and it stuck.
Moving on, junk I've made so far...

Felt blocks! I don't know if he'll get to play with them ever but they sure look cute in his room ;)

Onesies!

Baby/Toddler Quilt... I need to make the dust ruffle and the crib is done. No bumpers.
Felt toys!
Batman is amazing and the monsters are awesome. I just love the stuff I make ;)

And he can't be my baby without some skull print. Nice and soft felt blanket. Just simple.

Still need to make:
  • Car seat cover
  • Dust ruffle
  • Car seat blanket
  • Breastfeeding cover
  • Hospital gown?

2 months left!

Another month has passed...blogging just isn't my thing apparently. At least not during the school year ;)

31 Weeks:
And today, apparently he doubled in size overnight...
32 weeks (8 left!)

Yeay school bathroom mirror shot ;)

Tuesday, April 9, 2013: 32 weeks
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +15, doctor seems ok and by reading random books this is all amniotic fluid, baby, boobs, and uterus. Not too bad, I suppose, but I think the regular soda hasn't helped. I'm trying to stop drinking it but I just like the bubbles so much!

Maternity Clothes: Yeah, have to do the stretchy pants. A lot of my regular shirts still work though. However, he seems huge today so I don't know know long this will last. My jacket is def on it's way out. Good thing it's getting warm. And, bending over to tie my shoes is ridiculous so it will be nice to switch to sandals as much as possible.
Best Moment this week: I got a ton of sewing done this weekend and when I push on my stomach I can feel shape, he's getting big.

Gender: Still a boy. Counting on that 100%

Movement: all the time now. Much more often. Some of them feel stronger but nothing like I've heard people complain about kicks to the ribs. Maybe its the head down position? Most movements are low, like punches.

Food Cravings: Panda Express, Cherry Sprite, soda. Nothing healthy :(

Food Aversions: Eggs still. Scrambled egg breakfast sandwiches just never sounds good now. I might have had too much pizza cause it just wasn't appealing the last few days at all.

What I miss: Ibuprofen.Sleeping without waking up.

Sleep: wake up every three hours. The bathroom still feels like a second home.

What I am looking forward to: Baby shower this weekend in Overton. Yeay mini-vacation from Kingman :)
Belly Button: skin is tight but it still looks like a belly button.I can pull up a little and it gets all funky. Good thing for a little gut left that keeps it lookin' normal.

More pictures....
The 3D ultrasound didn't turn out so awesome. I just loved seeing him and his little heart and bones but mom was not impressed that we couldn't get a good face shot ;) He is head down and facing my back...and wouldn't move his hand from his face and the cord was everywhere. We went back a week later and he hadn't changed at all. This is the best we'll get until June!

Oh, and I'm Gestational Diabetes free! ;)

28 Weeks

This morning was my Gestational Diabetes test...the doctor ordered the 3 hour instead of the 1!!! So, the lab ladies were pretty ornery that I drank the stuff already but I got them to send over a new order that was the right 1 hour test. Whew. I got the fruit punch flavor, which actually seemed less sweet than Hawaiian Punch. Not as bad as I expected at all. They didn't tell me the number, and my blood sugar tester mom left here is out of batteries so I can't even check on my own. Pretty sure it's ok though. But hooray for Spring Break, 'cause I sure wouldn't want to have had to go to school afterwards.

Today marks 28 weeks! Only 12 left!

Monday, March 11, 2013: 28 weeks

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +10, doctor seems ok and by reading random books this is all amniotic fluid, baby, boobs, and uterus. Not too bad, I suppose.

Maternity Clothes: The full panel pants fit now. It is pretty nice not to deal with zippers and buttons... And, Gemma ate my slip ons that go with leggins. Blasted dog.

Best Moment this week: I actually felt him move Friday night, not just kicks but a foot or arm slide across my hand. That made it seem much more real that the pops and flutters of quick movements..

Gender: Still a boy. 3d Ultrasound Thursday but I'm pretty sure it's not going to change ;)

Movement: all the time now. I started counting for how long it takes for 10 movements and it was about 2 minutes last night. Maybe he can have hiccups after all?

Food Cravings: I'm eating sour cream Pringles all the time. Chocolate chip cookies and doughnut holes sound delicious constantly. And, I get Cafe Rio and Chinese this weekend in Vegas/Overton!

The bathroom feels like a second home.

What I am looking forward to: 3d/HD ultrasound on Thursday!. And, helping mom get the shower invitations out during our trip this weekend.

Belly Button: skin is tight but it still looks like a belly button.

And, I got the little felt mobile animals made :)

Friday, March 1, 2013

Well hello!

So, it's been awhile. A very long while. Sorry!

We're now expecting this little guy:

June 3, 2013 is the anticipated date... things have been going super fast!

I started this awhile ago and did it once...then the first trimester sleepies hit and real life second trimester. Now I am two days away from the third trimester and need some sort of record of this process.

So, here is the 9 week experience:

Sunday, November 4, 2012: 9 weeks 7 days
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +2? Only weigh at office visits

Maternity Clothes: My pants aren’t super comfortable. Rubber band for the jeans. School pants ok.

Best Moment this week: It’s fun to read what’s happening each week. I cannot wait for Nov. 28th and my ultrasound. Feeling ok. Not as many nauseating moments during the week but the weekend has been rough. Still soooooooooo tired and bathroom often.

Gender: I think it’s a girl…the two dreams I’ve had were about a little boy with a Mohawk and I can remember his name!

Movement: nope. Few weeks still.

Food Cravings: Mexican! Nachos, tacos, taco salad. Kiwi sounds awesome.

Food Aversions: Eggs. Scrambled egg breakfast sandwich just never sounds good now.

What I miss: Not nothing yet.

Sleep: wake up about twice to pee.

What I am looking forward to: an ultrasound to see more details and hear heartbeat. Then I will make Christmas cards with an ultrasound pic to send out and announce ;)
Belly Button: normal

And 17 weeks later, today:

Friday, March 1, 2013: 26 weeks 5 days

Total Weight Gain/Loss: +6 Only weigh at office visits, I have one next Wednesday and I'm expecting a big jump, I cannot get enough to eat. Sorry!

Maternity Clothes: yeahhhhhhh, pants blow. The full panel are just too much and not tight enough, my regular pants worked well with a belly band and elastic as needed but then I wore them every day and they split a big hole on Valentines. I have started to love leggings and dresses, I just need more comfortable shoes so I can wear it every day.

Best Moment this week: He is moving more and more every day. I love feeling him on the way home from school all day doing flips and kicks. Yeah kid, I'm excited to go home, too ;) I found an app that can amplify the heartbeat. It's pretty fun.

Gender: So, it wasn't a girl... From the first ultrasound on she said it was a boy at 13 weeks and mom's friend checked at Christmas and said boy...I wanted one more to make sure and voila! 20 weeks and it was still a boy ;) but, we're excited and I think it will be an easier start than a girl, really.

Movement: all the time now. Little bumps and bubbles. I was pressing my phone pretty hard to hear the heartbeat and he kicked it enough to give it a big bounce. He doesn't like to be cramped ;) Still can't tell if there are hiccups buuuuttttttt, Kedzie can't burp and doesn't get hiccups so maybe baby Skeletor inherited that unique talent also.

Food Cravings: Chinese, a lot. And thanks, Kingman, for not having anything decent. And, Cafe Rio and Capriotti's. I miss you, St. George.

Food Aversions: Eggs still. Scrambled egg breakfast sandwiches just never sounds good now.

What I miss: Ibuprofen.

Sleep: wake up every three hours. The bathroom feels like a second home.

What I am looking forward to: 3d/HD ultrasound on March 14th in Vegas... facial details and more baby pictures! We'll get a CD of photos and a DVD of the whole session. Whooo! Cody, Preston, and mom are coming. We'll send Whitney an extra DVD.

Belly Button: skin is tight but it still looks like a belly button.
