Holy crud. Annnnnyway, Keegan is 12 weeks old. Oy. He's just kicking and whining and flailing arms and legs. We weighed him in Overton last week and he's up to 12 lbs, 6 and a half more than when we brought him home. He eats 4 oz at a time and will sleep around 5 hours. He's starting to talk a little but it mostly just sounds like crying still. School starts in 4 weeks and his blessing is August 4th. It's going to be busy, although I feel like we just sit around all day. We wake up and all the sudden it's 5pm!
I need to type this all up before I forget since I'm not at home with his book. Here's a little novel to remember...

I went to bed Monday and everything seemed perfectly normal- exhausted, little low movements, nothing new. I woke up around 2:30 to pee like normal but lost all my water when I stood up. I changed into new pajamas and shoes and woke Kedzie up, hoping it wasn't my water but knew it was the only thing it could be. We got to the hospital quickly- we always said how nice it was to be so close to home when I went into labor or for Kedzie to come and go while Keegan and I were there. Ha! If only...
They checked me in quickly (only asking if I was an organ donor or had advanced directives! Thanks KRMC. That's reassuring.) The nurse, a sister-in-law of a first grade teacher at my school, tested the fluid. It was 99% amniotic. That's when everything went nuts. She called the doctor, started an IV (her helper did it...sticking me twice and fishing around for a vein,) and giving me a steroid shot for his little lungs. Dr. Taylor finally got there and said I was in active labor- dilated to a 3 and 90% effaced. Since I was only 33 weeks I would be flown to Phoenix. Kingman doesn't deliver until 36 weeks. My legs started shaking uncontrollably and I asked him to please send me to Las Vegas. I couldn't imagine being in a town I didn't know so far away from family...and Kedzie trying to drive there on his own.
Mom talked to her friend in L&D at Sunrise and Dr. Taylor got them to accept me there. Whew! Definitely one of the biggest blessings of the day. Kedzie grabbed the dogs, carseat, and random clothes and headed to Vegas. I got there via helicopter. Considering the wind we'd had lately it wasn't a bad ride. One bad turbulence jump and we got to Sunrise. It was a pretty decent view and helped me focus on that instead of losing it completely.
Mom, Dad, and Kedzie got there about 20 minutes after I did. Then we sat. I got magnesium started in Kingman and stayed on that and antibiotics for the rest of the day. The plan was to give me another steroid shot 24 hours after the first one, at 3 am. Around noon I started feeling contractions. They were pretty regular, about 4-5 minutes apart and 30 seconds long. We told the nurse and she just said it was an irritable uterus. Right. Very irritable. They just continued through the day. Longer apart but about 1 minute long. They weren't showing up on the blasted machine! The sensor was on top of my belly but everything I've ever felt with Keegan was super low. 6:00-ish she decided to check me since the still leaking water had more blood. The doctor came in and said we're having him now! :) I was dilated to 6 and 100% effaced. My legs started shaking again and chaos started. I just got to lay there but everyone else started packing and moving me down the hall. The labor nurse was super helpful and the room was frigid. Keegan's little warmer was there, and a footprint card and tiny little hat :)
Shortly after we got settled the anesthesiologist came in...right before he went home. And luckily we got him. He was great. Mom and Kedzie were super impressed and I went numb as soon as he finished--very strange but I calmed down instantly and stopped shaking. The nurse was great helping me stay still while he did it.
I remember watching parts of 2 episodes of Big Bang Theory and looking for something else to watch when a new nurse came in (we seemed to do everything this morning and night at shift change) She started looking at contractions and said we were ready to go. Keegan's heartbeat had stayed steady all day, luckily. He's a strong little guy.
Dad gave me a blessing and shortly after the nurse started watching for contractions and I was trying to feel for the pressure to push. She had to tell me for awhile, they finally got stronger. Kedzie and mom helped with my legs. I want to say she had me push 5 different times? She did them to a (SLOW!) count to 10 in groups of 3. We got close enough that she got the doctor and NICU team from the hallway. I had the biggest push urge yet and all the sudden Keegan was here! It was 8:33 pm and he was 4 lbs 13 oz and 18 inches long. Definitely didn't look like a premature little guy. Kedzie said he came out with his arms up to his face like a little fighter. The doctor held him up for me, he stayed for a few seconds while they sucked out his mouth and everything and then he started screaming. Such great little lungs for 33 weeks! It was the best thing to ever hear. They got him cleaned up and calmed down. Kedzie cut his cord and they brought him to me for a minute, then he and Kedzie left to the NICU. I got a few stitches on the side but then everyone was gone and it was calm again, just the nurse and mom. Dad had gone out to talk to Grandma, Lori, Whitney, Jerad, and Karlin and show them a picture... I'll get them up when we get home and I can load it all on the computer. My poor little phone is getting loaded down.
Eventually, they moved me upstairs to the postpartum rooms and put me in bed...I thought I was going to NICU! So, we got back in the wheelchair and finally went downstairs to see my little boy.
We walked all the way down the pod, he's in 2004-the last one and furthest from the door. I saw my little guy laying there all stretched out and growling away. He was breathing on his own but working hard and grumbling the whole time. Going back to my room was hard, the rooms on either side had crying babies the whole time I was there. But, he was content and comfortable and safe downstairs. Kedzie and I passed out as soon as we finally laid down, 23 hours after we started this whole crazy day.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-67829078459971675922013-04-09T21:12:00.003-07:002013-04-09T21:12:34.282-07:00Baby Skeletor CraftsMy second ultrasound (13 weeks) had a cool shot from... above? Face on? Annnnyway, we saw the skeleton and skull instead of just a profile. Whitney called him Baby Skeletor and it stuck.
Moving on, junk I've made so far...

Felt blocks! I don't know if he'll get to play with them ever but they sure look cute in his room ;)
So, the lab ladies were pretty ornery that I drank the stuff already but I got them to send over a new order that was the right 1 hour test. Whew. I got the fruit punch flavor, which actually seemed less sweet than Hawaiian Punch. Not as bad as I expected at all. They didn't tell me the number, and my blood sugar tester mom left here is out of batteries so I can't even check on my own. Pretty sure it's ok though. But hooray for Spring Break, 'cause I sure wouldn't want to have had to go to school afterwards.
Total Weight Gain/Loss: +6 Only weigh at office visits, I have one next Wednesday and I'm expecting a big jump, I cannot get enough to eat. Sorry!

Maternity Clothes: yeahhhhhhh, pants blow. The full panel are just too much and not tight enough, my regular pants worked well with a belly band and elastic as needed but then I wore them every day and they split a big hole on Valentines. I have started to love leggings and dresses, I just need more comfortable shoes so I can wear it every day.

Best Moment this week: He is moving more and more every day. I love feeling him on the way home from school all day doing flips and kicks. Yeah kid, I'm excited to go home, too ;) I found an app that can amplify the heartbeat. It's pretty fun.

Gender: So, it wasn't a girl... From the first ultrasound on she said it was a boy at 13 weeks and mom's friend checked at Christmas and said boy...I wanted one more to make sure and voila! 20 weeks and it was still a boy ;) but, we're excited and I think it will be an easier start than a girl, really.

Movement: all the time now. Little bumps and bubbles. I was pressing my phone pretty hard to hear the heartbeat and he kicked it enough to give it a big bounce. He doesn't like to be cramped ;) Still can't tell if there are hiccups buuuuttttttt, Kedzie can't burp and doesn't get hiccups so maybe baby Skeletor inherited that unique talent also.

Food Cravings: Chinese, a lot. And thanks, Kingman, for not having anything decent. And, Cafe Rio and Capriotti's. I miss you, St. George.

Food Aversions: Eggs still. Scrambled egg breakfast sandwiches just never sounds good
now.

What I miss: Ibuprofen.

Sleep: wake up every three hours. The bathroom feels like a second home.

What I am looking forward to: 3d/HD ultrasound on March 14th in Vegas... facial details and more baby pictures! We'll get a CD of photos and a DVD of the whole session. Whooo! Cody, Preston, and mom are coming. We'll send Whitney an extra DVD.

Holy toledo. The kids are crazy noisy and I come home exhausted. That's my excuse.
Onto better news, Oct. 7 I got to see Blink again for the first time in years and let me say, Best. Concert. Ever!!!! This was freakin amazing and I went with a guy who was just as into them as I was, so awesome. (he was our temporary roommate) Cody went too...but that's another story.
Annnnnnnnyway, here's our show! I love watching it and remembering! Blink makes me SOOOOOOOO happy.
ugh. why won't it post?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-9098217201368013222011-08-21T18:02:00.000-07:002011-08-21T18:02:46.507-07:00ExhaustedI made it through the first full week of school...and got sick about 2 hours after I got home Friday! These kids are killin' me! We've got to figure out how be quiet. Then maybe we can do some fun stuff. Tomorrow will be the day we figure out how to be quiet, cause I sure can't yell. All I can do is cough at this point.
It's been good overall, just figuring everything out. I'm on a school behavior committee because I went to a meeting before school started ;) Oh well, it's good to hear what's going on and get hours in for extra money. I'd also like to do an art club. They have music and drama but no art. Tutoring and clubs start after Labor Day so we'll see what happens. For now, I just want to go to bed and hope I feel better tomorrow!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-80681137800333391252011-07-15T21:46:00.000-07:002011-07-15T21:46:34.310-07:00PostcardsI forgot about these... I made them to send out to say Hi before school starts. Yep, the date was wrong. Thursday is the 11th. Blast. It was only $3 for all of them anyway, and I can probably fix it easy enough with a marker... I fixed it here through Paint ;) Oh, honestly!
But, they're still cute and I would love to get a postcard like this before school starts! Hopefully it helps them get excited and feel better about starting a new year...
I want to cut out numbers for their mailboxes and desks and a quote or two for the wall and some stuff for our library but all I have is white or silver. I can't find anything in Kingman buuttttt, I found some red at a decent price online at Hobby Lobby. Phew. Back to cutting soon! (The silhouette website sells the vinyl for the same price but have double the shipping! I hate finding a good deal only to have it ruined with shipping!)
I made an attendance board. This way, they move their clothespin to school or home lunch when they get to school. If there are any pins left on "attendance," I know how many and who is absent instantly. I won't have class names until about the week before, and even then I should wait another week or so after school starts before I make anything too permanent. But, it's a start. I'm done buying stuff, so I had to make do with the paper i have. not very pirate-y but still cute :)

And today, I taped out my rug. The nice ones are about $450 so I had to make do with a $20 rug and $8 duct tape. Not too bad. Hopefully not too crowded. It's a 6x8 rug, biggest I could find for cheap. Oh well, its still a meeting place with assigned areas!
I figured it might be more useful? appropriate? something... here. So far, I have:
Customized an alphabet chart:

Bought my fabric to make curtains and bulletin board background:

Made signs for all my centers... They look like treasure maps! Pirate stuff is such a great theme! :)
I got a free dresser today. I have some yellow-ish paint. I think I'll paint it yellow, black, and white and use it for storing things. I don't have many cabinets and I don't want it all just hanging out and ugly.
I'm making a rug too. I loved having one for reading and meeting times. I found a big cheap black area rug at Lowe's and am going to try painting a grid on it. If that fails I want to use the cute Duct Tape to make it... We'll see. I got my classroom keys yesterday so it's on!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-46308570198897112362011-05-20T16:00:00.000-07:002011-05-20T16:00:06.269-07:00I'm a teacher!I got a job! I get to teach 2nd grade at Cerbat Elementary in Kingman, AZ. I'm sooooooooooooo happy that I didn't have to wait until August to find a job the week before school started. We're checking out rentals now and hopefully will be down there by mid-june.
Now it's time to start worrying about being in charge of 25 seven year olds and decorating a classroom and collecting supplies.... Ahhhh....!!!!!

Tacky to use a proof? Maybe. But, I did buy a copy to put in a frame with my tassel so I don't feel bad...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-44911586496674439902011-05-09T11:07:00.000-07:002011-05-09T11:07:12.454-07:00I AM still alive...Whoa? April 6 was my last post? Well, April was a buuuuuuussssssssyyyyyyyyy month, folks! It was my LAST month of college! In that time, I had to make this e-portfolio (that no school district will take the time to review...) and a huge Teacher Work Sample to prove I learned stuff. Apparently, surviving Student Teaching (also going on during this time) wasn't enough.
BUT,
I made it through April and did this on Friday:

Yeay! :)

Now I have some spare time since I'm not getting any interview callbacks, so I want to add some recipes to this little blog. At least, links to recipes I want to try. This might make me actually try them and not just bookmark them. We shall see...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-83697725141123026812011-04-06T15:00:00.000-07:002011-04-06T15:24:47.718-07:00E-portfolio. Another hoop sucessfully jumped through. My e-portfolio is DONE. That means I have one huge project left to put together and I am DONE! May 6th is graduation and I cannot wait! I've been in school waaaaaayyyyyyyy too long.
I present my e-portfolio next Monday. I love it but I'm worried the judging panel of old professors will vote it's unprofessional. I say it's just not stuffy and boring. Elementary teachers need color and a little bit of fun! Come on!

*Ok, I didn't mean old professors. Just previous professors... See kids, word choice is MUY Importante!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-31997969526666601722011-03-17T10:25:00.001-07:002011-03-17T10:25:51.165-07:00Sorry dude.Oh, and if anyone reads this, sorry about my blog design. I HATE reading white text on a black background. Whoooo! Unfortunately, I am not going to relax in an exotic location. Oh no, I'll be in sunny St.George. Fun for some, life for me ;) Instead, I have a list of To Do's:

Get Kedzie's license renewed
Get Kedzie insurance
Get tires rotated
Renew registration

Sewing:
Sew crochet hook cases, try to sell
Make curtain for front door
Start Mario crochet blanket

In other news, check out what I made yesterday with Dar and Shareen!
I crocheted half of an earwarmer out of thick, dark purple yarn. It will be soooo cozy! It took me all of watching The Town to get it done... I'll get faster though, I think.
Axel pretended to be Cornholio:
Yeay, new contacts!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-38030553272164517132011-01-11T01:00:00.000-08:002011-01-11T01:02:42.114-08:00Good ThingsI found a blog today with a list called Best of My Days. The author made a page for every month and you write what was great that day. In this not-so-great period of my life I thought it would be a great idea to try. I remember starting a journal in 2002 that listed the 5 best things that happened every day, even if it wasn't a very great day. It was in a Harry Potter journal that had a book light included in it! Cody bought it for me for Christmas of 2001, probably from The Wiz. It was our first Christmas as "adults" and we had a great party in his grungy-cozy basement apartment with the huuuuuge tree we bought in a lot next to that white/tall/skinny furniture store and pawn shop with the Indian in Cedar and packed it into the trunk of my little Focus and drove across town and drug into his basement :) Gary, Regina, Tyler, Rachel, and Shayla were there along with Cody and I. And fetus-form Devon and Sadie.
Ah, I wish I was 18 again and could start all over :)
Annnnnnnnnnyway, back to the journal. I remember really having to think somedays to come up with 5 entries, while other days had 10 or 12 great things. So, I want to start doing it again now.
Here's to a 2011 that has positivity every day!

January 10:
1. I slept in and didn't even wake up with a sore back! (I'm 28 now and almost falling apart!)
2. I ate toast with strawberry freezer jam on the back patio. Yeay for not being frigid!
3. I rode my bike to and from school. My thighs are still sore but at least its a start!
4. I applied for graduation! A Bachelors degree no less. Eagerly awaiting May 6, 2011.
5. I got to talk to Cody, always nice.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-173263173255399136.post-73863174718388617262010-12-31T16:53:00.000-08:002010-12-31T16:53:11.568-08:00Things I Love TodayI had so much fun shopping today! Since I seem to have stockpiled chocolate chips in my freezer and Walgreen's had a sale on canned pumpkin, I can make tons of presents for almost free. Yeay!

Day 1 of Christmas baking: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip cookies. This recipe makes TONS. Grandma doesn't have any small recipes...
No more requirements than that, just a simple narrative that we would read to the class. These lax requirements mean that in the planning stages, it was any thing but simple. In the end, I wrote a paper about my thought process leading up to the creation of the said paper. The paper seems to hit the highlights of my college career. Enjoy.

edited to add updated version. I look at the paper too many times and just keep editing!

hahaha. Then I had to edit again because it was in dark blue ink and hard to read... I had to print it in dark blue 'cause I'm out of both black ink and money for more :)

annnnnnnnnd once more to make it white instead of black. I'm totally going to bed now!

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;">Thought Process

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> I can’t remember how many times I’ve been asked this semester about what topic I am going to choose for my narrative. I never had an answer to give. Most assumed it was because I am one of the best procrastinators of the Red Cohort. Normally, this is true. However, this time I wasn’t avoiding the project. I thought about it well in advance but just couldn’t narrow down a specific topic. Having the choice of “anything” is a bigger limit to one’s thinking that you would imagine.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> Should I write it about my marriage? Most of the examples my table received to preview gushed about a young bride’s wedding and how it was the best moment of her life. Hmmm… My wedding was at least interesting. We decided July, 6th to go to Las Vegas on 07/07/07, didn’t tell anyone we were doing it and had another wedding in September so our family could pretend they saw us get married. Do I want to write about that in detail though? Kedzie wore a tuxedo print t-shirt. I suppose that’s unique and interesting. Can I come up with a whole paper about it? At this point in time, I certainly don’t remember it as the happiest day of my life. Fun, yes, but blissful and everything I’d always dreamt of? Probably not. Looking back, I almost wish it didn’t even happen. I better not choose that. It would turn out far too jaded and cynical and scare the unmarried girls.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> Maybe I can talk about a body altering decision. I’ve had a few and am pretty sure no one else in this group will write about that. I could walk the class through my lip piercing. Or my nose piercing, that one was a bit more dramatic, what with the almost passing out afterwards details and all. I don’t know though. Is it too rebellious for the school district to get wind of? I better not put that in writing. My tattoos are cool, but all I remember is the vibrating, needle slicing, tooth chattering pain. And to think I sat through that twice! How about when I got fake boobs? Is that too much information to make the whole class squirm through uncomfortably while I read all about it? Joel told us about his vasectomy, so it might be okay... Blast! Decisions, decisions.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> What would my classmates expect to hear from me? Should I paint an exciting picture of the first time I encountered the swaggering Captain Jack Sparrow at Disneyland, or write a remembrance of watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze (starring Vanilla Ice!) in the old and decrepit movie theatre of my childhood back in Ely? Oh, Ely, where I fell in love with The New Kids on the Block in second grade. That reminds me that I need to buy tickets for their show this summer with The Backstreet Boys! Winnie, focus on the narrative! I’m definitely going to write about my childhood. Oh, but I can’t do that. That would be expected, and I can never do what is expected.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> I’ll write about Bella, my bi-polar cat. I know Kedzie always tells me that all cats are bi-polar, but really, who else has had the vet have to use one of those alligator noose things to get their cat out of the kennel after a surgery? No, I talk about Bella too much already. Maybe Axel? He is the happiest puppy ever but how sappy would that be?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> Let’s think about what in my life has been interesting. I’ve been in college for nine years and I’m not a doctor. Nope. That’s not interesting, just sad. Two years at SUU, then down to UNLV to take advantage of a scholarship. Once I realized UNLV was a terrible school I tried some drafting classes at the community college and was hooked. Finally, an Associate’s Degree! Now, if only houses were still designed by hand I might have stayed in the industry. Computer aided drafting and design may have revolutionized the construction industry but it also sent all the creativity and love out the window. Wait, brain, get back on track.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> No, a narrative about my college history would open up a whole can of worms and would have to lead to an explanation of getting married, moving to Manti and not being able to find anywhere construction related to work in Sanpete County. Hello, telemarketing. Then I’d have to detail the whole application process to get accepted into the Utah State Extension teaching program, only to have my husband laid off and eventually lead into our move to St. George. Did I mention I was the one who had to drive four hours with Bella and Bruce Wayne the Beta fish? And that I had to work at Ross for a year and a half? Oh man, why can’t I just pick a topic already?

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;"> So, I’ve made it to St. George in my thinking process. That means that I’ve browsed over nine years of events in my head and haven’t been able to settle. That’s just how my brain works. I think out of the box, create wildly imaginative projects and never believe I cannot do something. I dream in color and never expect to create something less than unique. I want it all, yet can’t decide where to start. I think of a million different beginnings but can’t ever pinpoint the end. So, at the end of the day (or last thing the night before), I’ll put those thoughts to paper in a slightly more organized manner than they are in my head and call it a narrative. Welcome to my thought process.

<span style="font-family: "Times New Roman","serif"; font-size: 12pt; line-height: 200%;">
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
